PASIG CITY – Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones encouraged the Regional Information Officers (RIOs) of the Department of Education (DepEd) to spread aggressively the truth about the Department.

In her meeting with the RIOs at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Complex Pasig City on January 22, Briones emphasized the significance of communication on the awareness of the general public about the development of education in the country.

“It is your responsibility to spread the DepEd truth aggressively, maski anong magandang bagay na ginagawa natin pag hindi ‘yan na-communicate, malay ng publiko kung anong pagbabago,” said Secretary Briones as she highlighted that the Department is now focusing on quality from access to education.

The DedEd chief told, however, that as communications people they have to be aware of what is happening in DepEd and the rest of the government. They are like teachers whose students are the public at large.

Since education is all about life of the mind, Briones underscored that it is the responsibility of the RIOs to sharpen their minds.

“Keep your minds grow, be alert, know what is happening in your Region, in the community, particularly in the field of education,” she added.

Briones also cited that communication is not about keeping quiet. She urged the RIOs to maintain their enthusiasm in enlightening the stakeholders on issues and concerns affecting the DepEd.

She as well directed the RIOs not to mislead the Media, instead convey a word of gratitude on editorials that appreciate the Department in doing things right and on columns that support DepEd programs.
