By virtue of her love and concern to the needy and less fortunate, Principal IV Myrna U. Ligas of the Don Eulogio de Guzman Memorial National High School in Bauang, La Union distributed relief goods to her barangay folks and teachers due to the threat to life of the Covid 19 pandemic and effect of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

The sudden declaration of ECQ in Luzon last March 16 affected food supplies in the entire Province of La Union and caused panic buying. The others were in chaos for their survival.

The townspeople of Bauang felt the same. They experienced hunger due to their limited stocks at home. They cannot work because of the lockdown. Residents had no other choice, but to stay at home.

The situation has assiduously prompted Ligas to help the less fortunate residents in Barangay Cabisilan as well as the teachers. More than 100 residents received relief goods, such as rice, eggs, and canned goods out of the 15 cavans of rice, 30 trays of eggs, and canned goods she allocated.

Through their schools’ group chat, Ligas raise P30,000 for her teachers where she bought 12 cavans of rice for them.

Ligas came from a poor family, she just delivered herself from extreme yet dignified poverty.

Her magnanimous and dynamic character as a leader and educator is unmatched to any other.

Her passion is helping others especially those who have less in life.  Her humility and motherly oriented approach in all her endeavors as well as having a big heart to anyone led her to reach greater heights.

She awarded as the Most Outstanding Teacher in La Union, Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser, and 2015 Most Outstanding School Head in La Union.

Her mantra, “We have to uplift ourselves from extreme poverty by means of helping others,” is well known. Her unwavering support continues as she lives by care to share GOD’s graces and immense glory.
