City of Candon, Ilocos Sur – More than 5,000 teachers will join this year’s commencement activity for National Teachers’ Month (NTM) which will be held on September 5, 2024, at the Candon City Arena.

Hosted by the schools division of Candon City, in partnership with the city government of Candon, the NTM opening program will recognize exemplary teachers and educators honing and empowering learners.

Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and other Education officials will grace the event while at least 40 national and local institutions and partners of DepEd will join the program at the Candon City Arena.

Metrobank Foundation, Inc. will honor outstanding Filipino teachers and other exemplary educators who put service at the forefront of improving the quality of education.

A Teachers’ Fair featuring services and products of partner stakeholders and local products from the different towns in the province will also be set up in the event venue.

One of the highlights of the activity is a mangrove tree planting at the Parola Lighthouse of Candon City.

The month-long NTM celebration will culminate on October 5 as National Teachers’ Day according to Republic Act 10743. It coincides with the UNESCO-developed World Teachers’ Day. (j)
