SAN FERNANDO CITY – The Department of Education Regional Office I through the Field Technical Assistance Division (FTAD) conducted the validation and pilot testing of School-Based Management (SBM) Assessment Process and Tool from October to November.

The activity aimed to validate the SBM practices of potential level III schools using the Enhanced SBM Assessment Process, Validation, and Tool with Contextualized Means of Verification.

The five model schools chosen for validation and pilot testing based on the list of lead schools in the implementation of Reading First for Region One were San Vicente Elementary School, Laoag Central Elementary School, West Central Elementary School, Abanon Central Elementary School, and Bagani Elementary School.

During the validation, the school heads, teachers, parents, learners, and other stakeholders were interviewed by the pool of regional SBM validators to evaluate the practices of the school on the following: Leadership & Governance, Curriculum & Learning, Accountability & Continuous Improvement, and Management of Resources.

Also, a discussion of the assessed SBM data of the pilot schools, the provision of Technical Assistance by the RO and SDO, and the review and presentation of the school’s Adjusted Annual Implementation Plan were accomplished.

The pilot schools that were validated as SBM level III will be recognized. Other potential schools shall undergo technical assistance for the improvement of their SBM practices for improved learning outcomes to qualify for the advanced level.

Said pilot schools shall guide the satellite schools through the sharing of best practices in the implementation of the school-based reading program.
