The Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office I conducted a consultative conference on the Implementation of Inclusive Education Act for Learners with Disabilities, or Republic Act (RA) 11650, and the Filipino Sign Language (FSL) Act, or RA 11106, further strengthening the region’s commitment to inclusive and equitable education for all learners.
The activity was participated in by division focal persons for Special Needs Education (SNED), Kindergarten, Senior High School, and Instructional Leaders from the different divisions.
Discussions focused on the operationalization of inclusive education programs, the promotion and use of FSL in classrooms, and the establishment of inclusive learning resource centers to support learners with disabilities.
Participants also revisited DepEd’s current initiatives and formulated recommendations to enhance the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of services for learners with special needs.
“Our SNED teachers are the heart of inclusive education, with their dedication and compassion can make a lasting difference in the lives of learners with disabilities,” Regional Director Tolentino Aquino said in his message.
Arlene A. Niro, chief of the Curriculum and Learning Management Division, emphasized that the successful implementation of RA 11650 and RA 11106 requires strong collaboration among schools, divisions, and local government units.
The activity concluded with participants’ commitment to cascade key insights and agreed strategies to their respective divisions, ensuring that inclusive education and the use of Filipino Sign Language are consistently and effectively integrated across all levels of basic education in the region.
