Lingayen, Pangasinan – Department of Education Region 1 teaching and non-teaching personnel actively participated in the 1st Regional Sports Festival held at Narciso Ramos Sports Complex (NRSCC), Lingayen, Pangasinan on May 9 to 10, 2019.

Schools Division Superintendent(SDS) Maria Celia Junio- Fernandez of School Division Office (SDO) I- Pangasinan, the host division for the sports festival welcomed all the participants and ensured them that their two-day stay in the province of Pangasinan will be filled with fun and sweet memories as this 1st Regional Sports Fest will definitely leave a mark to everyone.

SDS Sheila Marie A. Primicias of SDO San Carlos City took Oath of Sportsmanship from the players participating in the sports competition for respecting and abiding by the rules.

The NRSCC gym and grounds were filled with yells and cheers from the 14 participating Schools Division Offices (SDO) of Region 1 as the sports competition was officially opened by DepEd Regional Director Malcolm S. Garma.

In his message, Director Garma emphasized the purpose of bringing back sports competitions for teachers and DepEd personnel. “Sports is an equalizer. This activity is one way of relaxing ourselves most especially our teachers as we all enter upon new undertakings for the opening of School year and the brigada eskwela,” he added.

One of the highlights of the sports fest was the Laro ng Lahi, which include Patintero, Tug of War, and  sack race. Regular sports such as basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, badminton, chess, athletics relay. Once the events began, the grounds were filled with cheering and tons of encouragement from the supporters of the 14 SDOs.

The sports fest concluded with the announcement of the top performing SDOs. SDO Pangasinan 2 emerged as the over-all champion with most number of golds earned.

In his closing message, RD Garma guaranteed that the next sports fest will even be more exciting and competitive. The formal awarding of trophies and awards will be on May 20 during the Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off and Happy Schools Movement official launch in Vigan City.
